Alpha resources and training
Alpha is a great tool for church leaders to facilitate conversations around the Christian faith with parishioners and the broader community. Resources and tips to assist leaders with running Alpha are now available including ‘Alpha essentials’ (for those new to running Alpha), and ‘Alpha additions’ (for those looking to deepen their existing Alpha offering). Free training for church leaders is also available through the Alpha Australia Queensland Team.
Defence Sunday liturgical resources
Defence Sunday (10 November) is an opportunity for the whole church to prayerfully support the ministry and mission of the Anglican clergy serving as military chaplains, the Anglican laity and their families who serve in the Australian Defence Force, as well as for the wounded and the grieving. Liturgical resources and prayer points for use on Remembrance Day / Defence Sunday are available on the Defence Anglicans website.
Written by clergy and lay people across our Diocese, Sunday Devotions are short reflections based on the lectionary readings of the day, suitable for small group discussion or personal use. Check out this week’s Sunday Devotion, written by The Rev’d Canon Julia Van Den Bos from St John’s Cathedral.
Pray Daily: November
Join the Diocesan community in praying for our parishes, schools and other ministries, as well as other Anglican Dioceses internationally.
Religious leaders’ joint statement on high-quality end-of-life care
As the Queensland Parliament continues its inquiry into palliative care and voluntary assisted dying, Archbishop Phillip Aspinall has signed a joint statement on the provision of end of life care. This was done in unison with 15 of his fellow religious leaders here in Queensland, all of who say they are opposed to voluntary assisted dying, and instead are committed to the proper funding and availability of palliative care. They believe that society should be a caring and compassionate one, founded on the promotion of human dignity, human freedom and the common good.
